The product
These candle jars were designed as a personalised gift item: a ribbed decorative container, raised lettering wrapping around the perimeter (usually a name), and a contrasting lid that can carry a short message.
Inside is real wax and a wick, but the wax fill is intentionally shallow (around 3 cm depth). This reduces material usage and lowers the risk if someone attempts to light it. Each customer is clearly advised that the candle is decorative.
What mattered
- Crisp, readable lettering (including non‑Latin characters)
- Strong colour contrast for the lid text
- A premium tactile surface (ribbing + patterned base)
- Repeatable production for small-batch orders
How it was made
1) Geometry designed for a “gift finish”
PLA was chosen for its clean visual finish and ability to reproduce fine detail. The ribbed form and patterned base are intentional design features that hide typical FDM artefacts and look good in a wide range of colours.
2) Two-colour lid text (lots of filament swaps)
To keep the message text clean and flush, lids were printed using multi-material systems (AMS / AMS Lite) on Bambu Lab machines (A1, A1 Mini, P1S, P2S depending on availability). This allows crisp text and symbols without painting.
3) Small-batch workflow (consistent output)
Because the product was ordered repeatedly, the workflow prioritised consistency: stable print profiles, predictable filament behaviour, and quick QC checks for lid fit and text readability.
Packaging and gifting
Many orders were purchased as gifts, so presentation mattered. Options included colour themes and gift packaging; a greeting card could be added on request.
Result
A repeatable personalised gift product with strong visual impact. Base pricing for the series started from £12 depending on customisation and packaging.
