When resin is the right choice
Resin (MSLA) printing is the best option when you need very fine detail, smooth surfaces, and crisp small features. It’s ideal for miniatures, display pieces, master models for mould-making workflows, stamps/seals with small text, and precision prototypes where surface finish matters.
If your priority is large build size, impact resistance, or rugged functional parts, FDM printing may be a better fit (see FDM 3D Printing).
Surface quality & what to expect
Resin prints deliver a clean surface straight from the process, with sharp edges and excellent detail at small scales. Where supports are required, we remove them carefully and clean up contact points to keep the surface consistent. Most parts are ready for priming and painting without sanding (cosmetic finishing can be quoted if you need a showcase surface).
Studio workflow — included in every order
Every resin order is delivered as a finished, safe-to-handle part — not a “fresh print”.
Our standard workflow includes:
- Print setup with a support strategy designed for clean surfaces and reliable success
- Careful support removal and initial clean-up
- Thorough washing/cleaning of the part
- Controlled drying at moderate temperature (typically 50–70°C, depending on resin and geometry)
- Final UV curing in a dedicated UV chamber
- Quality check, then safe packaging for shipping
This drying-first approach helps reduce the risk of defects on parts with cavities or complex geometry, where trapped moisture can cause issues if curing happens too early.
Resin options
We stock a range of resins for different needs and can recommend the best choice based on how the part will be used.
Water-washable (default)
A clean, practical workflow and reliable high-detail results. Grey is the go-to choice for dimensional consistency and surface quality. We also stock black, white and clear.
Standard resin
A solid choice for detailed models and clean surfaces.
ABS-like resin
A tougher feel for parts that need more durability (application-dependent).
Flexible resin (on request)
For parts that need bend/flex. Suitability depends strongly on geometry and support strategy, so we confirm feasibility before production.
Smart optimisation: hollowing & drainage (by agreement)
Parts can be printed solid by default for maximum reliability. For larger models, we can also propose hollowing to reduce resin usage and cost, adding drainage holes and washing internal cavities properly. If required, drainage openings can be sealed after cleaning and curing. We only apply these optimisations after explaining the trade-offs and confirming with you.
Optional finishing
Standard orders include support removal, washing, controlled drying and UV curing. Cosmetic finishing (extra clean-up, surface work, priming/painting) can be quoted when needed. In most cases, the surface quality is already suitable for priming and painting workflows.
Lead times & delivery
Typical lead time is 2–3 business days for small orders. Urgent prints can sometimes ship the same day when feasible. For batches or multiple items, turnaround is typically 3–7 days, depending on print time and processing.
Based near Cambridge (Huntingdon area): collection available, UK-wide shipping standard, and international shipping on request.
How to order
Send your files and tell us:
- what the part is for (display, fit, mould-making, stamping, etc.)
- preferred resin/colour (or ask us to recommend)
- quantity and deadline
- any critical dimensions or fit requirements
We’ll confirm the best resin and settings, then deliver fully processed, UV-cured parts ready to use.
FAQ
Do you ship fully cured parts?
Yes — parts are washed, dried and UV-cured as standard before shipping.
Can you print fine text and small details?
Yes — resin is ideal for crisp small features and high-definition surfaces.
Will there be support marks?
Supports are removed carefully and contact points are cleaned, but support placement depends on geometry. We aim for the cleanest surface possible.
Can you hollow a model to reduce cost?
Yes — by agreement. We can hollow, add drainage, and clean internal cavities properly.
Which resin should I choose?
Tell us the use case and we’ll recommend the best option (water-washable, standard, ABS-like, or flexible on request).
Do you ship across the UK?
Yes, UK-wide shipping is standard. International shipping is available on request.
